Inhale. Well. It’s here. Exxxxxhale.
After months of debates and debating, reading, researching, obsessing, watching, worrying, discussing, praying, deciding, reconsidering, deciding again (and maybe even again).
November 8, 2016 is here.
Election Day.
This thing has wreaked havoc on relationships, communities and the nation. People have been disappointed, frustrated and insulted to the point of exhaustion. This thing needs to be done, so that we can be done (for a moment at least), and move forward.
(Ironically, we recently watched X-Men Apocalypse for a date night and this image of Havok immediately came to mind. I feel it’s a pretty accurate visual of what’s happening.)
Moving forward. I’m ready. But not.
I refuse to watch the continual newsfeeds that I know are covering the election results. I noticed that when I would pop on for a moment, I would feel a sense of anxiety, get agitated, and vow to not check again. Until the next time.
But, I looked at my kids and got a much needed a reminder. I’ve done what I can do – vote…and pray. It will not serve me in any way to anxiously obsess over the play by play, because I will lose sleep (you may be different, and I applaud you). What will be, will be.
The polls here are closing now. And the pundits and results reel will be in overdrive for the next few hours. But, I am reminding myself of a few things.
Tomorrow will still be November 9, 2016.
The sun will still shine.
The Grand Canyon will still maintain its splendor.
Yosemite’s El Capitan will still stand.
The towering redwoods will retain their majestic reign.
The ocean will retain it’s vastness.
Lord willing, these sweet faces will still greet me in the morning (probably way too early).
These will still be my favorite people.
And God still holds it all in His hands.
P.S. Of course, I see this picture of our family on the Golden Gate Bridge and I’m immediately reminded of alllll the end of the world scenes that occur in multiple movies with it as a backdrop (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, San Andreas, Contagion, X-men: The Last Stand, Book of Eli… Lord. Help)
So, let me add this caveat. If I am wrong, and the world does end tonight, and all the above meet their demise. We won’t care who the president is :D. And God is still God.
